I agree with the poster above. What good would a locked gun in the principal's office do? I doubt very much that in such a case, the principal would be able to mitigate the situation if he himself were armed - he'd have to be very fast. This violence was unexpected, tragic. Best if there were no guns - ban them. Also, maybe mental illness should be addressed more in our communities since the person who did this might have been experiencing some sort of mental illness.
banning guns wont do anything. people who commit crimes like that arent worried about whether or not guns are legal. they'll get a hold of them one way or another. the principle having access to a gun may not prevent all deaths but may prevent some. and preventing some is better than being completely powerless in a case like this.
As a former teacher, I can promise you a locked in any office whether it is publicly known or not WILL NOT mitigate certain people from getting their hands on it. UK has a good model of much lower incidence of gun-related violence because there is a ban on them: possession is 30 to life over there. Yes, criminals can still get their hands on them, but look at their numbers, proportionally much lower than the US and of course, in absolute. It keeps the borderline rifraff and fringe people far, far away. Lina, your suggestion is naive for schools in inner-city and rural kids. Might work otherwise, but a lock is not going to keep anyone who has a penchant for death and tragedy out. School grounds are NEVER a place for weapons.

That is just nonsense. From all the solutions you can come up with that is the best?
You want guns around children?
^anonymous-- if some psycho comes in and starts blasting kids away, how else do you think he could be stopped?
its not 'around the kids' if its locked up in the principles office. its secured away for their protection.

i can't take anyone's comments seriously unless they realize it's the "principal" not principle.

A locked gun in a school is ridiculous. Your words of wisdom are idiotic.
